The English Surgeon

A good documentary does more to stimulate my mind than the best fictional films. The English Surgeon is above and beyond a spectacular documentary. Most scriptwriters couldn't dare compete with the sheer drama and uncomfortable tension filmmaker Geoffrey Smith captures in his real-life story of English neurosurgeon Henry Marsh, who became fed up with the inability of Ukrainian doctors to treat patients in need of brain operations and decided to do something about it. When a young Ukrainian man needs an operation to remove a tumor in his brain, Doctor Smith is his only hope for long-term survival. Unfortunately for this patient, modern luxuries are nowhere to be found in modern-day Ukraine and the only the way the operation can move forward is by using nothing but local anesthetics to reduce the pain of drilling thru the scull and scraping away the cancerous cells growing on his brain--In other words, doing the entire operation while completely awake and conscious. Beyond the unbelievable situations throughout the film, the simple message of humanitarianism shines.  In today's consumerist smorgasbord of a world we live in, it can be easy to forget the simple things that make being a fellow human being a rewarding experience. This film helps remind us. -Clayton Hauck

Nerdom, For The Night Owl

To everyone who went to bed last night and woke up to a winter wonderland, I want you to remember the glory of the snow day. Greatest concept ever, you don't have to go to school, because of horrible weather, instead you just play outside all day. Making snowmen, snow-forts, and sledding, you actually end up having a more productive day then you would just sitting in a classroom all day. Why don't adults get snow days? What if I want to go build a snowman and fly with it to the North Pole to kick it with Santa until the sun comes up? Opium dream......I think not!!!!!!

I'm going to make some hot chocolate.

NERDOM, FOR THE NIGHT OWL

As someone who loves to play loud music until the wee hours of the morning, I find myself wondering why do I enjoy keeping my neighbors awake so much? Am I an asshole....possibly, do I feel it's necessary for my entire building to enjoy music at the same volume that I listen to it, because my music taste is far superior then their's.....more than likely, but this would go back to me being an asshole. So not wanting to admit my blatant assholyness, I've decided to blame cartoons. More directly Tom & Jerry. FYI if you've watched half as many cartoons as me, you can find some way to blame them for every bad habit you possess.

Yea, Everyone is Famous Man...

Welcome to the YM! Blog. Clayton was drunk enough; I mean, nice enough to consider it a great idea to give us a blog on everyoneisfamous.com. Thank you Clayton, we love you. What is YM!? Who cares. Hang out in Chicago at night and chances are you will meet one or all four of us. Come up and say hi, we are all pretty nice people. Just don’t ask us to remember any names after more than four drinks.

What this blog is really about is an introduction into the minds of four denizens of the night. To quote Josh from Flosstradamus, this is where everyone “takes off their cool” and doesn’t have any sort of mandated direction. What you can expect- personal musings, a review of all things radical, immaculate cuisine, lost pet posters, social etiquette reflections, VHS discoveries, things of a strugs nature, information super highway finds, potential swashbuckling, gift giving, missed connections and many other treats.
